Welcome to Your New Home
Buying a new home is very exciting, and a little bit scary. It's a deeply emotional experience, and that's how it should be. Your new home will shelter you and your family. It will be your refuge, your sanctuary... it will be yours. I once read that most homes are sold before the buyer walks through the door. Realtors call it curb appeal and it's very much like falling in love.
As an architect, I thought I would be immune to curb appeal. When my wife and I bought our first home we stepped over the curb without making any emotional commitments. But when we stepped over the threshold, and saw sunlight streaming down from clerestory windows, and the back yard ablaze in dogwoods, we fell hard – just like any other home buyer. We knew this little house must be ours!
That first house was 912 square feet of cheap construction, sagging floors, a hump in the roof, and a deck clinging by a thread. But the house was affordable and we loved it. We also knew what sort of trouble we were buying and I was confident I could fix it.
Do you know what you are buying? I can help you find out.
Professional Home Inspection
"A house is a machine for living in," according to the architect Le Corbusier. You may not be technically trained nor emotionally prepared to look on your new home (your new love) as a machine. This is why you need the frank assessment of a professional home inspection. I know from my own experience how difficult it is to be objective when buying a new home.
My inspection report will furnish you with accurate and unbiased facts about the current condition of the structure and its systems. No building is perfect. My inspection will most likely identify some flaws in the "machine" you are looking to buy. The detailed inspection report will allow you to make calm, informed decisions about those flaws you are willing to accept, those requiring further investigation, and those flaws that must be fixed.
The Main Menu buttons will direct you to more information on the home inspection process. Please call me if you have any further questions.
I look forward to serving you!
